Books I'm Checking Out...

Again, my HUGE thanks to the FREE public library - I can't think of how else I'd find all the material my little brain will need to absorb in the coming weeks/months/years...

The Commonsense Book of Wine Leon D. Adams
Wine for Everyday and Every Occassion D. Gaiter & J. Brecher
Vineyard: A Year in the Life of California's Wine Country J. Sterling & A. Katz
The Wine Atlas of California and the Pacific Northwest Bob Thompson
Wine: A Global Business L. Thatch & T. Matz (this one I had to purchase, not avail. in libraries)

As soon as I have finished these, I'll write up brief reviews of how helpful I found them...

Books, Books, Books

Here are a list of books that have been suggested by my instructors thus far:

The World Atlas of Wine Hugh Johnson (NY: Simon R. Schuster, 1994)
Wine from Grape to Glass Jens Priewe (NY: Abbeville Press, 1999)
Wine Making from Grape Growing to Marketplace Richard Vine (NY: Chapman & Hall, 1997)
Winemaking in California Ruth Teiser (NY: McGraw-Hill, 1983)
Wine Atlas
Sunlight into Wine
From Vines to Wines
Wine: A Global Business

I've been able to find most of these listed in the libraries in my county. Along with so many others! Thank goodness for libraries, and the fact that they're FREE!

Cal Poly Continuing Education

So, I signed up to earn a Wine Industry Certificate after Cal Poly failed to accept me into their business program. I decided I wasn't going to take "no" for an answer from this school. And besides, ever since I moved here, I became more and more interested with Vitas Vinifera. So, after attending a couple of classes, and realizing how much there was to learn and keep track of, I've built this blog. Mostly so I can keep track of everything I'm learning. But maybe I'll share it with others.

After all, wine is for sharing.

Let us begin!

My quest for my certificate is currently being fulfilled through Cal Poly's Continuing Education program. A link to their list of courses: http://www.continuing-ed.calpoly.edu/cert_wine_ind.html

So far, I've tackled Intro to Wine Industry, Wine Marketing and Sensory Evaluation. All very good courses, taught either by professionals in the industry, or seasoned veterans that moved strictly to the world of teaching. At any rate, each class has been worth the money paid. Still need to figure out if they can be itemized for tax purposes. I'll post if I figure out the answer to that one.
